FAQ
Questions, answered clearly.
These answers describe the current local-first product rather than promising features it does not provide.
Where is my data stored?
Core financial records are stored in LocalStorage in the browser and device profile where you use ZeroOutflow. They are not stored in a ZeroOutflow financial database.
What happens if I change browser or device?
LocalStorage is tied to the browser profile and device. Your records do not automatically follow you, so export a backup and restore it on the other browser when needed.
How do I back up and restore data?
Use the backup export and restore controls in Settings. Keep the downloaded JSON file somewhere you control and only restore files you trust.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. The Settings data controls can clear the local tracker data. Clearing browser site data can also remove it, so export a backup first if you may need the records.
Does ZeroOutflow support currencies other than USD?
No. The tracker is intentionally USD-only. Dates and regional display preferences do not change the currency model.
How do notifications work?
Notifications are optional browser notifications for local reminders and candidates. Your browser permission and Settings preference control whether they are enabled.
What are recurring transactions?
They are rules for regular expenses or income. You choose a frequency and next occurrence; the app can process due occurrences locally when automatic processing is enabled.
How do savings goals work?
A goal has a name, target amount, target date, and contribution history. Progress is calculated from contributions stored in your browser.
What does analytics show?
The app's analytics pages calculate trends from your local transactions. Google Analytics on the site receives measurement events and page paths, not transaction amounts, descriptions, categories, or financial records.
Is ZeroOutflow completely private?
The core financial data is local-first, but public pages use Google Analytics and may use Google advertising technology. Read the Privacy Policy for the specific disclosures and limitations.
What are the limitations?
There is no bank sync, shared account, encrypted cloud vault, or professional financial advice. Local data can be lost if browser storage is cleared, so backups matter.
Is ZeroOutflow free and does it require an account?
The core tracker is free to use and does not require an account. Your browser still controls storage, permissions, and whether data survives device changes.
